For Chrysanta Karuniamaya, getting 39 points in IB was not an easy task. It was rather a sweet reward for her blood, sweat, and tears through her DP year, juggling between her busy schedule of studying, completing assignments, and undergoing tutoring. She is sure that, all IB students found it hard in the beginning but she found her way out of this by focusing on one thing at a time.

‘The important thing is, when I do my assignments, I give my all on it. When I am in class, I paid attention to the teacher. Aside from helping me in understanding the materials, I only need to skim through my notes when reviewing before the exam,’ said Chrysanta.

When asked if she has any advice for her juniors, ‘Remember to take a break. I watch K-drama almost everyday, it helps me to destress,’

Being accepted in Indonesian University

Most of Chrysanta’s fellow graduates went to overseas universities, but to pursue her dream to become a doctor, she’s required to complete her bachelor degree in Indonesian universities. Chrysanta was accepted at Universitas Udayana, which is known to have one of the best medicine faculties in the country.

It might come as a surprise to some, but going to Indonesian university doesn’t mean she wasted her time in IB. In fact, her IB experience has helped her a lot during her application to the university, ‘In IB, we focus on learning concepts. This helped me to answer a variety of questions because I understood the concept. I was also trained to answer one question under 1 minute, which really helped me in managing my time during my university exams,’ said Chrysanta.

One of the strengths of IB curriculum is writing the extended essay for DP. The extended essay allows students to practice academic research and writing skills, and also encourages students to develop critical thinking. Most of IB alumni found this experience to be very useful, including Chrysanta, ‘Even though university hasn't yet started, we've gotten so many assignments, such as writing scientific reports. I can say that IB has helped me in this, because if I wasn’t a part of IB, I wouldn’t have had the practice to do this.’
